Flipping through channels this morning, I caught a glimpse of Lil' Mama on America's Best Dance Crew. It reminded me of the ESPY awards gifting suite where Lil' Mama picked up one of my necklaces in 2009. I said to my daugher, "She wears Lush Jewelry," as I do from time to time when we see a celeb on t.v. that owns one of my designs. I always think she'll get a kick out of it. She was obsessed with Lily Allen a few years ago who was the very first celeb to rock one of my designs. Then I remembered, I really needed to update my blog and finally share a few of the pics from the EMMY awards Fabuluxe gifting suite I did so long ago! So many celebs came through and they spent a lot of time at my table. A few of them actually remembered Lush Jewelry from the ESPY awards. I hear we were a big hit there too though I did not personally attend. It's amazing to know that my designs stood out that much in their minds! Countless other celebs visited Lush Jewelry at the EMMY's. Though I did not receive all of the photos from the event, I did recieve emails from a some of the celebs, thanking me for their jewelry and I even received a photo of one on the red carpet wearing my ring! Ok, so they're not quite ready yet (I know, I know) it's been months and still no proof that I was even there! I had some trouble getting my photos from the company that hosted the event, but not to worry! The very kind Lesley of www.lesleybryce.com photography, who's apprentice photographers were at the event, came to my rescue! She offered to send me a disc with all Lush Jewelry photos on it, even though she totally was not obligated to! The photographers she sent were extremely professional, and really cool, and they got lot's of good shots of the celebs with my jewelry, etc... Needless to say, I'm very excited and I can hardly wait to share the pics with you! Thank you, Lesley!

I am liking a little bit of copper here and there, a little gunmetal still, staying with the whole rock and roll vibe through Spring. I also like to go the complete opposite a lot of times so I'm also getting into some art deco inspired styles and vintage button post earrings.
Many times, the pieces will be one of a kind, which works well with my consignment shops as they need new pieces monthly, but is very hard to keep up online. So if you're ever in San Diego looking for a more unique selection, check out some of the boutiques that carry my line!

It's been a while since I've posted, and to be quite honest, things have just been a bit blah. The past year has been rough for everyone with the recession/depression digging it's heels in and refusing to let up. I've had four stores close in the past year and I pray that there are no more. It's really sad to see friends go and see the areas in San Diego that were so happening, Pacific Beach, Hillcrest, La Jolla, Downtown and Birdrock losing these extraordinary boutiques that made them such great destinations.

The passing of Michael Jackson, Patrick Swayze, Farrah Faucet, DJ AM, and now Brittany Murphy have been hard to handle as well. This whole Tiger Woods controversy, my mother's health and the list goes on.

But there are so many things I am grateful for, I am grateful that despite a few stores closing, my jewelry is still selling out, and despite the passing of some amazingly talented and genuinely good people, we still have their art, their memories and lessons to be learned, and despite the fact that my mother's health is failing, and the doctors have given up, I just can not manage to give up. I'm grateful for the fire that burns in me, that just will not burn out. I'm grateful that I refuse to give up and I'm grateful that things WILL get better, because they always do. Even if things are a little different than we're used to.

Now I choose to look ahead, imagine the possibilities and begin to bring them to life. Here's to saying so long to our woes and creating in the New Year - health, hope, positivity and prosperity!

I was lucky enough to be a part of another good cause last month. I sent off a variety of gemstone bracelets for the girls of the Vista Maria Shelter in Michigan, a residential and community based treatment agency that provides education, spiritual support, therapy, shelter and care to young women and their families who have been victims of abuse, neglect and other traumas.

The bracelets were part of a gift bag put together for the girls who also received dorm makeovers and a cooking celebration to make them feel as special as they already are!

Tigerlily foundation is an organization that strives to educate and empower young women about breast cancer. The founder, Maimah Karmo, a breast cancer survivor and fearless female is active in many different committees and coalitions dedicated to the awareness, advocacy, research and care of those diagnosed with this harrowing disease. She recently appeared on Oprah with Christina Applegate sharing her story and her fight.

In June, I will be donating 100+ breast cancer ribbon earrings to the Tigerlily foundation for the young survivors and fearless females.

Feeling a little apprehensive about buying jewelry online? Here are a few tips:

1. Always read the description of the product. Make sure the seller has included the size of the item. Since photos can sometimes be deceiving, this is a vital step for the buyer. For linear earrings and necklaces, look for length in inches. For hoop earrings and bangle bracelets, look for diameter or circumference.

2. Check out the type of materials the seller uses. If they use solid 14k gold, the price will be higher and rightfully so because you are paying for a high quality metal. If they use sterling silver or 14k gold filled, those are also great quality, but considerably less expensive. If the seller is using plated metals, make sure you are not being ripped off and paying more than you should be for this type of item.

3. Always check the seller's return policy. After using the tips above, you should feel confident in buying jewelry online but it doesn't hurt to make sure you are protected in the event you are not satisfied.

Caring For Your Jewelry

There are a number of ways to keep your handmade jewelry looking brand new. Here are the basic "rules " you want to follow.

1. Do not shower or go swimming in your handmade jewelry designs. Take off rings and bracelets when washing your hands. Exposure to chlorine or salt water can permanently stain sterling silver and soap and water can cause gold filled jewelry to wear down quickly.

2. Remove jewelry before going to sleep at night.

3. Do not spray perfume directly on your jewelry and if applying lotion, wait for it to dry before putting jewelry back on. These products will tarnish your sterling and gold filled jewelry.

4. Store jewelry in an air tight container like a jewelry box or acid free plastic baggies to prevent tarnish.

5. Do not put jewelry in the bottom of your purse or bag to transport it. It will break.

6. To remove tarnish from sterling silver and gold filled jewelry you can use a jewelry polishing cloth and gently wipe clean. Some dip cleaners work well but read the instructions first because they may damage certain types of stones. For brass pieces, Brasso works wonders! You can find it at Target or Wal Mart.
